About The Position
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This role involves screening for sick call, administering medications, and providing first aid and basic life support to patients and employees. The LPN will maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff, providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan. All pertinent information must be recorded into the medical record, and interaction with other departments will be necessary as needed. The position promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing. Nurses must be able to work assigned hours, days, and locations, and be capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX-PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application)
- Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of practical or general nursing care
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders in applying treatments
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care
Responsibilities
