About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides care to patients in the CVICU Stepdown department under the direction of a registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the LPN license. The role contributes to patient assessment and well-being, administers medications and monitors for adverse reactions, performs laboratory tests and therapeutic services, and educates patients and families about treatment plans, post-discharge self-care, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow-up care. This is a full-time weekend night position at UAB St. Vincent's East, scheduled Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and provides care through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements

Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
Obtain BLS Provider certification within 1 month (30 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Provide patient care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the LPN license.
Contribute to patient assessment and help assure patients’ well-being.
Administer medications and observe patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments.
Perform laboratory tests and therapeutic services.
Educate patients and families about disease treatment plans, post-discharge self-care, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow-up care.
