About The Position

This Nurse Residency Program is designed for new graduate nurses with less than one year of experience. The program blends core clinical training with specialty-specific education, including quality and safety classes, simulation labs, one-on-one skills validation, hands-on learning with clinical mentors, and ongoing professional development. The resident will attend all quality and core curriculum classes, participate in professional development workshops and peer support groups, and complete all clinical competencies and validation requirements. The role involves refining nursing knowledge and skills under the supervision of the Clinical Education Team and a licensed Registered Nurse, who will oversee all clinical experiences, documentation, and procedures.

Requirements

Completion of an LPN program recognized by the State Board of Nursing.
Candidates with greater than twelve (12) months LPN experience are not eligible to participate.
Holds a current LPN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an LPN in the state the team member is working.
Must graduate 45 days or more prior to the start date.

Nice To Haves

If an LPN team member working in this position obtains RN licensure, Prisma Health will accept RN licensure for a limited time until the team member can be placed in an RN position.
Team members should immediately notify their manager and Talent Acquisition if they are scheduled to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam or have obtained RN licensure.

Responsibilities

Attend all quality and core curriculum classes.
Actively participate in professional development workshops and peer support groups.
Successfully complete all clinical competencies and validation requirements of the Nurse Residency Program.
Refine nursing knowledge and skills under the direct and indirect supervision of the Clinical Education Team.
Actively participate in managing clinical situations under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse.
Adhere to policy and procedure requirements including licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, time and attendance, dress code, patient confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration.
Collect patient data and complete required forms with appropriate responses according to unit standards.
Identify patient’s problems/needs and communicate with the RN.
Review and record latest diagnostic results.
Perform patient care under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Participate in the interdisciplinary care team to provide input on the plan of care.
Make referrals to multidisciplinary support services under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Provide treatments/procedures and other care as prescribed and according to patient care standards.
Demonstrate understanding of age-related characteristics and needs of patients served.
Explain nursing procedures.
Provide discharge teaching.
Identify emergency situations and escalate to the RN.
Act as an advocate for patient care with other health care personnel.
Evaluate patient care measures instituted.
Understand and demonstrate respect for patient rights.
Utilize established mechanisms for management of ethical issues in patient care under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Record patient care delivered as planned and any variation, with appropriate rationale.
Make and record observations related to impending or associated problems.
Implement nursing measures related to impending or associated problems under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Integrate cost-effective measures into nursing practice.
Recognize unit problems and take responsibility for escalating to the RN.
Demonstrate active participation in QI processes.
Comply with hospital expectations to meet staffing demands based on patient care needs.
Comply with policies addressing safe working conditions.
Monitor unsafe working conditions.
Recognize inappropriate and/or ineffective patient care management, resolve issue/problem and complete written reports.
Fulfill call for unit as assigned and adjust staffing for census (volume) and acuity under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Perform other duties as assigned.
