About The Position

BJ’s Wholesale Club is seeking a Licensed Optical Manager to lead and manage the optical team. This role involves performing optician duties, managing, teaching, and coaching team members, interacting with members, confirming appointments, and maintaining the department. The Optical Manager acts as a liaison between members and the lab to ensure timely order processing. The position requires strategic thinking, effective communication, and the ability to drive business results and team member engagement. The manager will also focus on delivering excellent member service, upholding club standards, and understanding key business metrics to drive performance and profitability.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed to work as an optician within the State and keep license up to date and active.
  • High school diploma, college degree, and/or big box wholesale, retail, optical, and/or management experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including managing/supervising cross-functional teams, training team members, and driving and communicating results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, customer service skills, organizational skills and an attention to detail required.
  • Open shift availability required.
  • At least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all duties required of an optician.
  • Managing, teaching, and coaching optical team members.
  • Interacting with Members, confirming appointments, and maintaining department upkeep.
  • Serving as the liaison between members and the lab to ensure timely order processing.
  • Exhibiting strategic thinking and sound decision-making using business data.

  • Acquiring deep knowledge of key metrics and reporting for department performance.
  • Driving performance and profitability by using reporting to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Correcting process breakdowns before they negatively impact performance.
  • Communicating the connection between operational performance and financial targets.
  • Providing a high level of Member service, including answering calls and scheduling appointments.
  • Educating patients on product benefits and recommending solutions for visual needs.
  • Managing sales opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensuring accurate fund collection and payments.
  • Following up with Club Manager and Regional Optical Manager regarding department performance, maintenance, team member performance, and doctor relations.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workstation/Optical department.
  • Supervising all team members in the Optical department, including training, separations, promotion recommendations, and coaching.
  • Maintaining all club policies and procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
