About The Position

The Licensed Mental Health Therapist - Hospital Based provides mental health services to patients and their families who are seeking hospital-based mental health services in the context of a mental health crisis. Duties may include mental health and diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, consultation, crisis intervention, therapeutic intervention, case management, and discharge planning.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, and/or counseling.
  • Minimum one year experience with youth in mental health crisis.
  • Minimum 1 year experience delivering clinical mental health services post-graduate degree.
  • Crisis evaluation and de-escalation skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to create safety plans.
  • Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
  • Ability to provide leadership.
  • Ability to be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies.
  • Ability to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate.
  • Ability to accept direction.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist - CA, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker - CA, or Licensed Professional Counselor - CA.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years post-graduate experience with youth in mental health crisis.
  • Experience with a hospital system, residential treatment program, community-based crisis service, or other setting serving acute mental health needs.
  • Prior LPS designation.
  • Crisis de-escalation training.
  • Manual holds training.
  • Risk assessment (danger to self, danger to others, grave disability) and management.
  • Fluent knowledge of community resources relevant to disposition planning.
