About The Position

Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Indiana's first community mental health center, provides comprehensive care for emotional and behavioral problems, including severe mental illness and substance abuse. The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services.   FLSA StatusNonexempt Job Role SummaryThe Licensed Crisis Clinician Specialist – CIU provides outpatient behavioral health crisis intervention and support services within Eskenazi Health for individuals of all ages. This position is a hospital-based role and part of the 24/7 outpatient Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) crisis response continuum team, providing crisis intervention services in the Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) and SEMHC Triage, as well as consultation and evaluation in other areas of the hospital, including the emergency room and medical floors.  This position assesses individuals for harm to self and/or others, as well as grave disability to ensure safety and dispositioning to the appropriate level of care.  The Licensed Crisis Clinician Specialist works closely with SEMHC outpatient services, re-linking current clients to their treatment teams, establishing care for those without an outpatient behavioral health provider, and conducts follow-up post-disposition to ensure client connection to care.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a behavioral health or human services that meets Indiana licensure requirements for the following associate licenses: o    Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); o    Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); or o    Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
  • Active and unencumbered clinical licensure in the State of Indiana (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (“CPR”)

Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health’s values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence 
  • Embraces, understands, and operates under the Recovery Model, including AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) and the spirit of motivational interviewing
  • Conducts crisis mental health and substance use assessment services to evaluate individuals’ danger to self and/or others as well as grave disability
  • Provides behavioral health crisis intervention, therapeutic, and support services
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, including peer recovery professionals, nursing, care coordinators, physicians, and advance practice providers
  • Provides behavioral health consultation to the Eskenazi Health Emergency Department, medical units of Eskenazi Health and the Mobile Crisis Recovery Team (MCRT)
  • Evaluates psychosocial status, any high-risk symptoms or circumstances that would result in risk for self-harm or harm to others, as well as individual needs for the development of an appropriate crisis plan and disposition
  • Serves as a referral source for clients, working cooperatively with community resources and agencies
  • Determines appropriate level of care for clients, assessing need for crisis receiving stabilization services, acute services, outpatient services, and other potential treatment
  • Enrolls clients not already linked to outpatient treatment into Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center outpatient services (including conducting initial intake and treatment planning) when appropriate and with respect to client’s choice 
  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment at all times through on-going assessment of environment and demonstrates safety and awareness of environment when responding in the community
  • Meets the agency’s standard of timely completion of all documentation including interpreting and applying service and billing procedures according to client needs as well as completing billing according to guidelines for timeliness and accuracy for all services provided, including but not limited to, social, psychiatric and medical histories and presenting problems with complete mental status exam
  • Identifies community resources and assists individuals in their access to these resources
  • Meets agency requirements for area-specific and continuing education
