About The Position

This position provides mental health support services to students at the Counseling Center. The role involves programming, outreach, and training for the campus community.

Requirements

  • Work requires knowledge equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, with a concentration in mental health, counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience providing individual and/or group counseling services, intake assessments, and conducting outreach programming.
  • Must be a licensed mental health professional in the state of Virginia. (LPC, LCSW, or Psychologist)

  • In this role, the employee will only make clinical decisions pertaining to students, without prior approval of the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group counseling to students.
  • Provides crisis intervention.
  • Conducts intakes and assessments.
  • Provides clinical supervision to interns, including review and signing of case notes, and meeting with interns weekly to provide feedback on performance and development, when the Counseling Center has interns for the academic year.
  • Provides 24-hour on-call crisis intervention services.
  • Engages in clinical case staff meetings to include clinical feedback.
  • Conducts outreach programming campus-wide including Housing and Residence Life, various departments, classrooms, and student organizations on various topics pertaining to mental health, assisting emotionally distressed students, and resources.
  • Provides referrals and coordinates treatment and care with community mental health providers and stakeholders.
