About The Position

Hopewell Elementary School is seeking a Library/Technology Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves providing clerical and technical support in the library and acting as the building's technology contact person. The position requires a high school graduate with post-secondary education and/or experience related to the performance responsibilities. The goal of this position is to assist students and faculty with library operations, computer use, and technology troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Ability to remain mobile throughout the work day.
  • Medium Work - lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Stooping and kneeling occasionally.
  • Reaching, talking, and hearing frequently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in circulation, processing, computer operation, maintenance, and inventory.
  • Experience acting as a technology contact person for a building.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students and faculty at the circulation desk.
  • Supervise student checkout and renew books.
  • Enter and edit holds for students and teachers.
  • Check in returned materials and shelve them in the proper location.
  • Follow up on overdue materials, generate emails for overdues, and remind students verbally.
  • Update the catalog with lost materials and prepare bills/invoices for lost or damaged items.
  • Keep accurate records on lost or damaged materials and issue refunds when necessary.
  • Enter/download student records into Destiny software system.
  • Prepare pages with barcodes for each classroom and enter new student information.
  • Prepare photographs for each new student in the system.
  • Generate monthly Destiny reports of ongoing fines.
  • Assemble bibliography reports from the Librarian as requested.
  • Assist with lost/damaged book reports.
  • Process new books for shelf use by applying barcodes, spine labels, and protectors.
  • Laminate dust covers or plastic coat paperbacks.
  • Stamp books with district and school ID stamps.
  • Assist students and teachers in the use of computers and other equipment.
  • Supervise and assist with computer use.
  • Set up and operate the LCD computer projection system, iPads, Chromebooks, printers, video recording equipment, or other materials.
  • Assist students with Destiny catalog and Google Doc issues.
  • Help schedule and maintain the integrity of device carts.
  • Make minor repairs and troubleshoot malfunctions/problems with technology.
  • Contact Belmont for special supplies or devices (cords, plugs, headsets, etc.).
  • Assist students and teachers with materials selections and location.
  • Repair old or damaged materials.
  • Advise Librarian on the status of library supplies and repairs.
  • Create displays around the library.
  • Assist staff in ordering/circulation of AEA materials.
  • Perform shelf maintenance, straighten books, organize shelves, and shelf read periodically.
  • Clean and dust equipment and furniture.
  • Perform general room maintenance.
  • Complete annual inventory and assist with weeding.
  • Scan books by sections of the library to account for all books.
  • Mark or withdraw lost/damaged materials.
  • Compare computer lists with books on shelves.
  • Make suggestions for weeding/new acquisitions.
  • Act as the liaison between the technology coordinator and staff.
  • Assist staff with technology questions or problems.
  • Disseminate materials, software, and hardware as needed.
  • Generate a list of student birthdays by month via Destiny.
  • Prepare a letter for all students for participation in the Birthday Book Club.
  • Keep a record of student names, dates, class, chosen books, and final tally.
  • Prepare insert with student name and birthday for chosen books.
  • Take photos of students with their chosen books.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
