About The Position

The Macdonald-Kelce Library at The University of Tampa is seeking a full-time Library Technical Assistant in Circulation for night shift work to provide excellent service. Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone who has experience in an academic library setting and feels comfortable interacting with patrons of all ages and backgrounds. Responsibilities include assisting at the circulation desk with charging/discharging and renewing of materials; processing interlibrary loan requests; supervising student employees; interpreting and enforcing library policy and other related work as directed. The successful candidate will report to the Circulation Manager.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.
  • Be a collaborator with excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret, use, teach, and explain the use of library resources.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn The University of Tampa software programs such as Alma, Workday, and Springshare.
  • Ability to manage time wisely and prioritize a variety of tasks in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have flexibility to work a varied schedule during exam weeks.
  • Be solution oriented with strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to interact with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience working in circulation or in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of basic library practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of library systems and software, including circulation functions.
  • Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property issues.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Circulation Desk, often serving as a first point of contact for patron questions, technology issues, locating materials and resources, and assisting with library accounts in person or over the phone.
  • Greets and directs patrons to appropriate library resources; responds to general inquiries; assists with basic library technology.
  • Shares responsibility for training student employees and supervising work assignments.
  • Alternates with other staff members in desk duty during service hours.
  • Serves as primary person for processing new books, interlibrary loan requests and other collection maintenance duties as needed.
  • Serves as backup for the management and maintenance of the Course Reserves collection.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
