About The Position

The Library Specialist position at the Funk ACES Library is an evening/night role with specific working hours during the academic year and summer term. The primary responsibilities include building supervision, monitoring all building functions, interacting with library users, and supervising student workers and other hourly staff. This role involves public service duties at the circulation desk, assisting patrons, monitoring library operations, and serving as a contact person for campus services. The position also assists with technical services and contributes to library activities like displays and social media.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in a library or equivalent setting, or college coursework equivalent to two years (24 months) of experience (30 semester hours = 1 year, Associate’s degree = 18 months, 90 semester hours = 2 years, Bachelor’s Degree = 3 years).
  • Familiarity with library public service activities and library operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct the work of student employees.
  • Ability to perform collection analysis, shifting, transfers, and other similar processing activities.
  • Ability to provide positive customer service.
  • Ability to work collegially with colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise student workers and other hourly staff, interacting and consulting with graduate assistants.
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming environment for library patrons and employees.
  • Perform public service duties at the Funk Circulation Desk, including circulation holds and pick slip processing.
  • Assist patrons with inquiries, refer them to daytime staff and librarians, and explain library policies.
  • Monitor late evening service operations, including printer and computer operations, public service activities, and stacks supervision.
  • Serve as a contact person for campus police, campus building service workers, and Facilities & Services personnel.
  • Monitor all aspects of the Funk Library physical facility and communicate incidents and issues to Funk staff.
  • Assist in various Funk Library technical services and materials processing activities, including Reserves processing, serials processing, collection shifting, and materials marking.
  • Contribute to Funk Library’s ongoing activities, such as displays and social media.
