About The Position

The purpose of this job is to process, organize and shelve library materials at all Public Library locations. This role involves providing customer service, performing tasks associated with the automated materials handling system, shelving library materials alphanumerically, maintaining shelves, assisting staff and the public with material locations and general information, assisting with special events, and tutoring patrons in the use of PAC terminals. The position also requires attending departmental and all-staff meetings and training. Additionally, the role represents the Department and County to other staff and the public, demonstrating the organization's Core Values and adherence to the Ethics policy.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have dependable transportation.
  • A pre-employment criminal background check is required.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and activities of the library and library practices as they pertain to the performance of duties.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the County.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer software consistent for this position.
  • Skill in analyzing complex administrative information and issues, defining problems and evaluating alternatives, and recommending methods, procedures, and techniques for resolution of issues.
  • Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
  • Skill in applying judgment and discretion in resolving problems and interpreting policies and regulations.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits requiring minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers; greets, receives, and screens visitors and customers; addresses and resolves customer questions as able and refers complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to appropriate staff.
  • Performs tasks associated with the automated materials handling system, such as emptying bins, fine sorting carts, and providing basic troubleshooting.
  • Shelves library materials alphanumerically according to the Dewey decimal classification.
  • Maintains shelves by keeping materials in neat and correct order. Cleans and sanitizes materials as needed. Alerts supervisor of materials that need repair.
  • Assists staff and the public with locations of materials.
  • Assists the public with general information and direction.
  • Assists with special events.
  • Tutors patrons in the use of the PAC terminals.
  • Attends regularly scheduled departmental and all-staff meetings, annual staff training day, and any additional mandatory meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Represents the Department and County to other County staff and members of the public.
  • Provides quality customer service to individuals needing directions or assistance.
  • Demonstrates the organization’s Core Values and adherence to the Ethics policy.
