About The Position

The purpose of this job is to process, organize and shelve library materials at all Public Library locations. This role involves providing customer service, managing the automated materials handling system, shelving library materials accurately, maintaining shelves, cleaning and repairing materials, assisting staff and the public with locating materials and general information, and assisting with special events. The position also requires tutoring patrons in the use of PAC terminals and attending departmental and staff meetings.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry level role.
  • Must have dependable transportation.
  • A pre-employment criminal background check is required.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and activities of the library and library practices.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices.
  • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the County.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer software consistent for this position.
  • Skill in analyzing complex administrative information and issues, defining problems and evaluating alternatives, and recommending methods, procedures, and techniques for resolution of issues.
  • Skill in organization and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
  • Skill in applying judgment and discretion in resolving problems and interpreting policies and regulations.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits requiring minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers; greets, receives, and screens visitors and customers; addresses and resolves customer questions as able and refers complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to appropriate staff.
  • Performs tasks associated with the automated materials handling system, such as emptying bins, fine sorting carts, and providing basic troubleshooting.
  • Shelves library materials alphanumerically according to the Dewey decimal classification.
  • Maintains shelves by keeping materials in neat and correct order.
  • Cleans and sanitizes materials as needed.
  • Alerts supervisor of materials that need repair.
  • Assists staff and the public with locations of materials.
  • Assists the public with general information and direction.
  • Assists with special events.
  • Tutors patrons in the use of the PAC terminals.
  • Attends regularly scheduled departmental and all-staff meetings, annual staff training day, and any additional mandatory meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
