About The Position

Responsible for accurately sorting, shelving, and maintaining the orderly appearance of library materials. This role involves regular attendance, sorting and shelving all library materials according to the Dewey Decimal System, and shelf-reading to organize, straighten, and shift collections as necessary. The position also provides public assistance in the use of collections, catalogs, and electronic resources, and assists with office-related tasks and library programs and outreach. Answering telephone calls and implementing library policies and procedures for patrons are also key duties. Reliable transportation is required, and the position may involve evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and have completed 2 years of high school
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with County and Library policies and applicable laws
  • Skill in using standard business software and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Communicate effectively with patrons and staff
  • Perform various mathematical calculations accurately
  • Apply common sense to daily tasks, patron assistance, and problem-solving
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
  • Interact professionally with the public
  • Exercise initiative, discretion, and decision-making within established guidelines
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License is preferred
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Evenings and weekends are required
  • Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing is required
