About The Position

Assists patrons, manages circulation and provides other necessary library functions within established guidelines by performing the following duties: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Regular attendance is required Works the public service desk and provides customer service Implements library policies and procedures for patrons Operates integrated library system software (ILS), including: Checking materials in and out Processing material requests Handling overdue, lost and damaged item procedures Provides public assistance in light reference and readers’ advisory services, as well as use of collections, catalogs, electronic resources, and related services Answers and directs telephone calls Processes payments, counts money and prepares daily revenue reports with accuracy and accountability Records daily statistics and reconciles generated reports Assists with library programs and outreach, including preparation and presentation as needed Attends staff meetings as assigned Sorts, shelves, shelf-reads, organizes, straightens, and shifts collections as needed Must have reliable transportation Performs other duties as assigned Evenings and weekends are required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; OR an equivalent combination of education and training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with County and Library policies and applicable laws
  • Skill in using standard business software and equipment
  • Proficiency in data entry principles and practices
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with the public
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Communicate effectively with patrons and staff
  • Perform various mathematical calculations accurately
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
  • Interact professionally with the public
  • Exercise initiative, discretion, and decision-making within established guidelines
  • Apply common sense to daily tasks, patron assistance, and problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in problem-solving
