Library Resource Technician
About The Position
The Library Resource Technician will be responsible for organizing and maintaining a Meskwaki Data Base, including cataloging library materials, preserving fragile historic photographs and other resources, and inputting audio and digitizing photos and video images into a Data Bank. This role involves using digital recording and imaging equipment, classifying materials by subject matter, and compiling bibliographies and indexes. The technician will also assist the supervisor with various tasks, including answering questions and processing official government records and special collections.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D
- PC/Mac experience required
- Ability to acquire a knowledge of the functions, characteristics, services, and collection of materials of the library where employed
- Ability to use automated cataloging systems
- Knowledge of library practices and procedures
- Must have a high level of concentration and attention to detail and display high standard of ethical conduct
Responsibilities
- Organizes and Maintains a Meskwaki Data Base (Windows based)
- Responsible for preservation of fragile, historic photographs, and other resources
- Catalogs library materials; identifies unique distinguishing features, describes them bibliographically, and records the data to integrate materials with others in the collection
- Assist supervisor with answering questions and distributing, balancing and checking work; may make suggestions on selection, promotions and reassignments
- Inventories, classifies, records, processes, indexes, and provides access to official government records, and special collections, such as manuscripts, photographs, media, and electronic records
- Inputs audio and digitizes photos, and video images into Data Bank
- Use digital recording and digital imaging equipment
- Classifies library materials by considering the subject matter, assigning proper places in the system of classification and on shelves to systematize materials and facilitate their use by museum and library patrons
- Compiles and organizes bibliographies by listing books, periodical articles, pamphlets, films, tapes, and records and studies of the Meskwaki
- Indexes library materials by identifying specific information in publications in a logical written format to provide a key to the contents of materials
- Other duties as assigned
