About The Position

The City of Farmington is seeking a Library Public Computer Lab Technician (Job Position #161) for the Library Department. This is a part-time, temporary position with varying days and hours, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends. The technician will work under the supervision of the Library Computer Support Supervisor (Public Technology Coordinator) and is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and monitoring the use of public computers. Key duties include providing exceptional customer service, assisting patrons with basic computer use, ensuring compliance with library policies, and planning/scheduling technology appointments. The role requires knowledge of computers, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Webmail, and the World Wide Web, as well as the ability to master and assist others with library technology such as audio-visual systems, 3D printers, and Cricut machines. The position also involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and the public. Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Windows computers and the World Wide Web.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.
  • Ability to learn and sufficiently operate the library's computers to assist patrons with the on-line catalog, electronic databases, the internet, and other computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public on all age levels, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.
  • Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
  • Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
  • Must be available during peak use hours, which include weekdays, evenings and weekends.
  • Subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program (pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, MacOS, and Apple products desired.
  • Comprehensive understanding of library procedures, which may be attained through on the job training.
  • Comprehensive understanding of library technologies, which may be attained through on the job training.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, organizes, and monitors use of public computers.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and assists patrons with basic use of library's public computers.
  • Ensures computer users comply with policies and guidelines relating to use of the computers and the internet.
  • Plans, schedules, and instructs computer and technology appointments, as needed.
  • Masters the use of library technology and assists other employees and patrons in its proper use (e.g., audio visual systems, 3D printer systems, Cricut machines).
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and members of the general public.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
