About The Position

Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources is seeking a Youth Services Librarian for its Betty J. Johnson Library branch. This role involves coordinating Youth Services programs for ages 0-18 and their families, training staff and volunteers, providing customer service, and managing collections. The librarian will also engage in intergenerational programming with both youth and adults. Team members contribute to setting goals, decision-making, and evaluating progress within the library system. The Sarasota County library system is an award-winning system with 10 branches, historical resources, and a mobile library, offering extensive collections for all ages.

Requirements

Master's degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Science Professionals (CILIP).
OR Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within twelve (12) months of hire.
Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.
Fingerprint-based background check, as required by law.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Coordinate Youth Services programs/projects for youth ages 0-18 and their families.
Teach and coach staff, volunteers, and citizens.
Provide customer service.
Coordinate collections.
Work with youth and adults in intergenerational programming.
Participate in setting unit, library, and system goals.
Contribute to decision-making.
Evaluate progress.
Develop and implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry, delivered with the utmost respect and courtesy.
Promote understanding and use of the library, its technology, and resources by presenting individual and group training programs.
Assist customers by locating answers to questions, including Interlibrary Loan services and referrals to agencies outside the library.
Keep abreast of developments, new trends, and innovations in libraries.
Aid at service desks and to other sections as needed.
Represent Sarasota County and the library/library interests to library users and within the community.
Prepare reviews, press releases, bibliographies, and other promotional displays.
Analyze and identify service population needs, developing and directing plans to meet those needs.
Network with other agencies to provide and obtain materials and services.
