About The Position

The City of Farmington is seeking a Library Processing Clerk for the Farmington Public Library. This is a temporary, part-time position working approximately 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends. The role involves processing library materials to make them available to patrons, assisting with material preparation for removal and book sales, receiving and sorting mail and donations, processing periodicals, repairing damaged materials, and participating in inventory processes. Accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills are vital. The position requires operating a motor vehicle and adhering to all City and Library policies. This role is part of the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program and requires a background check and participation in the Environmental, Health, and Safety Program.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel, and the public on all age levels and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to learn and use the library organization systems, including the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
  • Ability to learn how to operate the library's integrated library system (ILS) and various library-related software.
  • Ability to type and enter data accurately.
  • Working knowledge of basic personal computer operations, with applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and/or Google Docs, Google Sheets, Email, and the Internet.
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to successfully perform routine duties as assigned with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, complete assignments in a timely manner, and meet quality standards.
  • Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends for special library events.
  • This position requires a commitment to service excellence; the ability to work well with others in a team and independently; and the ability to remain flexible and positive in a time of continuing change.
  • Ability to learn to use the tools and equipment listed, including the library's online catalog and automation system and use them effectively to perform assigned duties.
  • Must complete 2 TestGenius tests (Numeric Filing and Data Entry: Inventory) within 3 days past the closing date.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with library integrated library systems (ILS) and various library related software, applications and their processes.
  • Experience with Dewey Decimal Classification system.

Responsibilities

  • Process library material through the library's procedure system (applying book jackets, adhering barcodes, printing and applying spine labels, etc.) to make them available for patrons.
  • Assist in preparing library materials to be removed from the library's automated system.
  • Assist in preparing books, media, and periodicals for the book sale.
  • Sort and box library materials; lift and move heavy boxes.
  • Receive incoming mail, freight, and donations; sort and distribute to appropriate staff and/or locations.
  • Process periodicals and newspapers, logging them upon arrival.
  • Arrange and file periodicals and newspapers in the display areas of the library.
  • Repair damaged library materials (e.g., repairing broken hinges, replacing media albums).
  • Participate and attend staff meetings, trainings, daily shows, programs, and other projects of the library as required and/or assigned.
  • Assist patrons and fellow employees in a courteous and respectful manner; refer patrons and fellow employees to appropriate personnel.
  • Learn procedures and follow established routines primarily through on-the-job oral instruction and observation.
  • May participate in inventory processes, including scanning barcodes and locating materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of patron records and work-related issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
  • Comply with Technical Services department and library procedures and policies; and City guidelines, rules, regulations, procedures, and policies.
