About The Position

We’re looking for a patron-focused, detail-oriented Clerk to join our Adult Services team. The ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively with others and is committed to creating a welcoming experience for our visitors. An employee serving in this position advances the mission of the Library by providing direct public service. This role is responsible for performing clerical work related to customer assistance and services, circulation, and the collections as well as providing support to other Library staff as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic familiarity with library services and operations.
  • Ability to perform basic circulation and service functions using the library circulation system, service platforms, and following current procedures.
  • Ability to master basic functionality of collection platforms.
  • Ability to learn and obtain certification in passport processing.
  • Basic to intermediate level literacy with respect to standard computer and office software.
  • Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically.
  • Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to lift light objects (less than 20 pounds) and carry them short distances (20 feet or less).
  • Ability to push a fully loaded book cart (typically weighing at least 20 lbs or more) for distances of at least 20 feet.
  • Ability to remain in a standing or seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movements, including typing and/or lifting books, on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to reach overhead and bend/kneel to shelve books weighing up to three pounds.
  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record (depending on position's specific duties).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct public service, acting as the initial point of contact for patrons.
  • Promote library services and offerings, introducing patrons to service and collection platforms and demonstrating their basic functionality.
  • Perform basic searches in Library catalogs and assist patrons with basic informational questions.
  • Assist patrons in accessing and using document machines, library computers, and library-supported software, and troubleshoot common technical problems.
  • Perform transactional services such as notary or passport processing.
  • Perform all direct patron and material circulation functions and assist with record maintenance tasks.
  • Assist other staff with internal and external group program setup, preparing materials for programs, and external promotional activities.
  • Assist in shelving, merchandising materials, and pulling materials for collection management or circulation tasks.
  • Assist with training staff members and serve on library committees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
