About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Library Paraprofessional-Youth for the Sienna Branch Library. This role involves interacting with library patrons to assist them with material selection and information needs, explaining the use of reference sources, and searching catalogs, databases, and print sources to answer inquiries. The position also contributes to collection development and maintenance, plans and conducts tours and programs, and assembles displays and bibliographies. Additionally, the role involves performing database maintenance, developing and managing youth services programming, and planning school visits and outreach activities. Cataloging and classifying library materials, providing bibliographic control using MARC Records, and creating/changing records in an automated system are also key responsibilities. The position requires participation in emergency management activities during local states of disaster as directed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• One year job related experience.
• Computer skills.
• Good verbal and written communication including interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.
• Organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

Nice To Haves

• Relevant experience working with children in groups is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Searches catalog, databases and print sources to answer patron inquiries.
• Assists with collection development and maintenance.

• Assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties.
• Performs database maintenance.
• Develops, performs and/or manages youth services programming.
• Plans and performs school visits and other outreach activities.
• Catalogs and classifies library materials such as books, audiovisual materials, etc.
• Provides bibliographic control using MARC Records.
• Creates records, changes holding, using an automated system.
• Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
