Serves as the first point of contact for patrons at the library, handling inquiries in person and over the phone, and referring them to appropriate departments as needed. This role may involve managing difficult patron interactions or emergency situations. The position also includes assisting with the training and supervision of part-time library clerks and acting as the In-Charge staff in the absence of a Clerk III. Key duties involve managing the circulation of library materials using an integrated library system, including Interlibrary loans, patron holds, and Partnership library reserves. The role requires proficiency in various software applications, understanding shelving classifications, using the internet and email, and working with spreadsheets. Additionally, it involves utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and converting collections as needed. The Library Clerk II is responsible for inputting and maintaining patron data, managing patron records, issuing library cards, and strictly adhering to the Patron Confidentiality Policy. Financial responsibilities include assisting patrons with payments for overdue fines and lost materials, handling cash, credit cards, and operating a cash register. This involves counting, reconciling, and balancing accounts, preparing daily deposits, and generating monthly reports. The position also entails rerouting circulation materials to other branches, loading and unloading bins of library materials (up to 25 lbs), receiving, sorting, and processing new, existing, and donated items. Daily tasks include pushing loaded book trucks, searching shelves for requested items, shelving materials, and preparing items for the Hold Shelf. The role also involves receiving and checking in periodicals, journals, and newspapers, processing and maintaining collections, and weeding outdated or damaged materials. Participation in staff meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings, and training sessions is expected. Other assigned duties may include ordering supplies, processing, mending, and cleaning books and AV items, ordering and receiving library materials, checking invoices, creating records, updating holdings in the automated system, processing mail, and performing database maintenance. Employees are expected to participate in emergency management activities during local states of disaster as directed by county managers.
