About The Position

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is seeking a dedicated individual to join their team. This position is ideal for someone with exceptional attention to detail, a love for organizing, and a satisfaction in cleanliness and order. The role involves both teamwork and independent work, requiring an active and busy approach rather than desk-bound tasks. The position is responsible for shelving materials accurately using the Dewey Decimal System, maintaining shelf order, assisting with the Second Story and Beyond exhibit space (ensuring safety and restocking materials), emptying outside book drops in all conditions, checking in and sorting materials, cleaning the library, pushing and pulling heavy carts, possible heavy lifting, and assisting with programming setup and teardown.

Requirements

  • Graduation from the tenth grade or equivalent or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
  • Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; principles of basic mathematics.
  • Ability to file numerically and alphabetically.
  • Ability to quickly learn the Dewey Decimal classification system.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate office machines and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Frequent standing and sitting.
  • Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper.
  • Occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials.
  • Moving from place to place within the office.
  • Some reaching for items above and below desk level.
  • Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal occasionally.
  • Pass a reference and background verification.
  • Provide proof of a valid California driver's license and be insurable.
  • Pass a pre-employment medical exam.
  • Complete a Degree Verification.
  • Complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify that they are eligible for employment in the United States of America and furnish proof certifying legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Shelving materials accurately, according to the Dewey Decimal System, and maintaining shelf order.
  • Assisting with the Second Story and Beyond, keeping the space safe, and restocking exhibit and craft materials.
  • Emptying outside book drops in all seasons and weather conditions.
  • Checking in and sorting materials according to their collections.
  • Cleaning up the library at the end of the day and as areas get busy and messy.
  • Pushing and pulling heavy carts and possible heavy lifting.
  • Assisting with programming, including game/craft/activity stations, setting up, and tearing down.
