About The Position

Prince William Public Libraries is looking for three (3) energetic, adaptable, detail-oriented individuals to join our team as a Library Page. We are seeking individuals who can work both independently and as part of a team to ensure materials are accurately shelved and are easily accessible for patrons and staff. The Library Page position is physical in nature and may require long periods of standing, stooping, bending, transporting large quantities of library materials (up to 20 lbs.), and pushing wheeled book carts. A Library Page is one of the most vital positions in the library system and can be your gateway into a successful career in library services. These positions are located at Montclair Library in Dumfries, Virginia.

Requirements

• 8th grade education or higher.
• Must be at least 16 years old.

Nice To Haves

• Work experience with the Dewey Decimal Classification System
• Filing and organizing materials using alphabetical and numerical systems
• Prior work in a public library, bookstore, or similar customer-focused environment
• Experience with a library integrated system (such as Polaris)
• Proficiency with using applications in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Outlook, and SharePoint

Responsibilities

• Shelving materials in alphabetical and numerical order according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
• Providing excellent customer service by assisting patrons with locating materials and providing information.
• Perform administrative tasks including processing materials and generating basic reports.
• Maintain the appearance of the branch collection with accuracy and neatness.
• Perform branch opening and closing procedures including unpacking and packing materials for delivery, straightening books on shelves, and checking-in materials.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and assisting incoming page staff as needed.
• Create displays, assist with library programs, and participate in community outreach and special events.
