About The Position

The Logan Library is seeking two new employees to help us spark creation, exploration, and collaboration in our community. Under general supervision, the Library Customer Assistant's primary responsibility will be assisting the public while staffing library service desks. These positions will be scheduled for one four-hour shift per two-week pay period and will be called in for additional shifts as needed, including weekday, weekend, and evening shifts. Additional hours are not guaranteed.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • The ability to reach, push, pull, squat, and move repetitively to retrieve and shelve items on library shelves (with or without a library cart), walking, standing, or sitting for extended time periods (two to four hours), and carrying a reasonable selection of materials between places where they are stored and places where they are used within library facilities and property.
  • May be required to lift/carry materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Applicants must be available on short notice.
  • Applicants must indicate their understanding of the on-call nature of this position, and include their availability in their submitted cover letter.
  • The ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and by listening in the modes of public speaking, speaking with small groups, providing instruction, counseling, and direction, and in preparing notes, memoranda, policies, correspondence, and reports
  • Basic technology skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Internet searching, and resource evaluation
  • The ability to receive, understand, interpret, and carry out library policies and procedures
  • The ability to engage in an ongoing intellectual effort to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of library resources, learning, literature, and information resources

Responsibilities

  • Provide reference and reader's advisor services, and instruct patrons in the use of library resources, including databases, reference materials, catalogs, computers, makerspace equipment, and the interlibrary loan system
  • Participate in material circulation procedures
  • Promote library use
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Participate in creating, organizing, marketing, and/or delivering public programming related to the relevant collection and/or personal interest
  • Participate in materials processing, repair, and/or discarding
  • Participate in catalog record maintenance
  • Organize shelving carts and shelve materials
  • Manage the library's lost & found
