About The Position

Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Student Library Assistant provides support to ensure the effective operation of the library. This includes assisting students, faculty, and staff with library services, managing circulation and reference activities, supporting technology needs, and performing related duties to maintain a well-organized and functional library environment. The position may require lifting and maneuvering heavy materials.

Requirements

Must be a current student enrolled in the federal work study program and in good academic standing.
Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Comfortable with library technology, databases, and electronic resources.
Ability to lift and maneuver library materials as needed.
Commitment to providing excellent customer service and maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Charge and discharge library materials.
Answer basic reference questions and assist users in locating materials using both traditional and electronic resources.
Retrieve materials upon request.
Complete inter-library loan processes, including discovery in OCLC, shipping, and returns management.
Manage the library customer service desk efficiently and professionally.
Re-shelve books and materials in proper order.
Assist with the library cataloging process.
Relabel unreadable book spines and reshelve items appropriately.
Read shelves to ensure correct item placement.
Troubleshoot minor technology and reference needs of patrons.
Maintain whiteboards in a clean and ready-to-use state.
Keep library tables, chairs, and furniture orderly.
Assist with reserves activities and circulation arrangements.
Support shelving arrangements, including shifting books and other materials as needed.
Instruct users in the use of reference tools, indexes, computers, and other library equipment.
Assist users with locating materials available in the library, the consortium, and other libraries.
Support technology needs of students and other campus stakeholders.
Assist with archival tasks as assigned.
Perform other library-related tasks as assigned while adhering to library policies and procedures.
Maintain a mature and professional demeanor to foster a harmonious working relationship with library staff, campus stakeholders, and the general public.
