About The Position

Perform routine clerical and technical duties so the librarian is free to work directly with students and teachers. This role involves assisting students and teachers with locating information, using library technology, and maintaining library operations. The Library Clerk will also be responsible for circulation, acquisitions, and clerical tasks, ensuring the smooth functioning of the library environment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, public relations, and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills are mandatory.
  • Proficient skills in typing.
  • Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills.
  • Ability to shelve books following the district cataloging system.
  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Effective, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
  • Regular attendance is an essential function.

Nice To Haves

  • An associates (or higher) degree OR Meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district.
  • Library Technical Assistance training.
  • One or more years preferable in an office or library clerical position.
  • Experience working with school-age children.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students and teachers in locating print and electronic information.
  • Instruct teachers and students on computer/internet usage and accessing electronic card catalogs and other databases.
  • Help students create final products using all library resources.
  • Read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud (elementary only).
  • Supervise and monitor students as assigned, assisting the librarian and teachers in maintaining appropriate student behavior and an orderly atmosphere.
  • Assist with the operation, instruction, and maintenance of library technology devices.
  • Operate, instruct, troubleshoot, and maintain audiovisual equipment, technology devices, and other equipment in the library.
  • Maintain library automation systems by loading, attaching, and deleting records.
  • Periodically publish updated lists of new materials, recent acquisitions, video inventory, etc.
  • Assist the librarian with annual inventory and make corrections in the electronic shelf list as needed.
  • Maintain records of materials ordered and received.
  • Use on-line circulation systems to check materials, make library cards, and maintain records such as overdues and inventories.
  • Keep a check-in/check-out calendar for equipment.
  • Locate and prepare carts of materials needed by teachers for classroom projects.
  • Operate the library in the absence of the librarian, performing duties such as logging onto online databases.
  • Submit work orders for equipment repairs.
  • Maintain and order supplies at the librarian’s request.
  • Maintain the organizational integrity of the library facility, including shelving, displays, and bulletin boards.
  • Maintain financial records relating to lost book payments, book fair sales, and overdue fines.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes, including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform other tasks and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
