About The Position

The Library Associate works with a team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for children ages 0–11, their caregivers, families, and all individuals using the library. The position performs professional and technical library work in youth services and delivers high-quality library services and programming to provide value-added customer experiences. It is based at the Mountain Island Library in Charlotte, North Carolina, part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system.

Requirements

At least two years of public library, retail, or customer service experience.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proficiency in various computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of alpha-numeric sorting systems, child development, and telephone etiquette.
Technology adeptness; excellent interpersonal, customer service, and time-management skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work with a diverse population and demonstrate adaptability, communication, collaboration, technical and professional knowledge, and high work standards.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree.
Bilingual in Spanish.
Knowledge of integrated library systems software.
At least three years of library, customer service, and/or administrative experience.

Responsibilities

Create and deliver programs for children ages 0–11.
Perform circulation activities and provide service desk coverage.
Prepare program reports.
Provide research assistance to customers.
Use integrated library systems software.
Assist customers at several service points.
Train and assist customers on library policies, procedures, and processes.
Maintain the library’s collection of materials.
Assist with volunteer management.
Create and maintain attractive and appropriate bulletin boards and displays.
Promote and market library programs, collaborating with Marketing and Communications to generate flyers and related materials.
