About The Position

Dougherty County Public Library has a vacancy for a Library Assistant. Employees in this position are responsible for staffing the Circulation desk and performing other duties that contribute to the efficient operation of the library.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Additional education or at least 1 year of work experience
  • Must provide a copy of high school diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Issues library cards.
  • Checks books and materials out and in.
  • Answers the telephone; provides information and assistance; collects fines and fees; obtains books and materials from other libraries to fill patron requests.
  • Ensures equipment used by the public is in good working order; demonstrates proper use of such equipment; performs routine maintenance, e.g. loading paper and changing toner cartridges.
  • Sorts and returns materials to the stacks, re-shelves, and files.
  • Notifies patrons of overdue or reserved library materials; processes and covers new materials.
  • Strives to resolve patron problems and concerns relating to late fees or unreturned materials.
  • Checks in magazines, newspapers and other mail, routing it to the appropriate locations.
  • Assist with special events.
