About The Position

The successful candidate will implement the day-to-day operation of the library, including assisting students and faculty. Duties will include, but are not limited to, checking out books and other materials, assisting with research materials including databases, entering bibliographic information into databases, and distributing/retrieval of academic resources.

Requirements

High school diploma or the equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
2 years’ experience in working with the public.
Competence with computers.
Ability to learn library catalog software.
Must enjoy being part of a team.
Experience working in a library or educational setting.
Experience working with adolescents.
Detail-oriented with a strong sense of responsibility and time management.
Self-motivated to take initiative, achieve goals, and make improvements.
Enforces and complies with policies and procedures of the ASMS Board of Directors.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in the operation of basic computer programs.
Maintain a neat appearance and appropriate dress.
Maintain a coachable spirit.
Maintain flexibility to help facilitate events for Research Fellows, the Bedsole library, and the Jo Bonner Leadership Academy.
Frequent interaction with students, staff, parents, and community members.
Ability to communicate with the administration, faculty, staff, students, and general public in a professional and effective manner.
Ability to follow instructions, both written and oral.
Criminal history background checks and establish suitability criteria for individuals working in positions that involve children, including public or residential school settings like ASMS (Alabama School of Math and Science).

Responsibilities

Implement the mission, goals, and policies of ASMS.
Implement check out/check in procedures for books and other materials.
Supervise tutoring program.
Maintain order in library, including shelving books and other materials, supervising study hours, etc.
Facilitate group activities during scheduled working time.
Serve as a resource person for research and resource questions.
Assist with distribution of textbooks and other academic materials.
Be familiar with ASMS policies and implement appropriately.
Be familiar with ASMS Emergency Procedures and implement as needed.
Monitor student behaviors in the library and study rooms.
Responsible for the tidiness of the library and study rooms.
Build an open and collaborative relationship with students, faculty, and staff.
Assume other duties as assigned by the Academic Librarian/Research Coordinator, and/or President.
Serves on ASMS committees as assigned.
Supports the school’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Tracks data for reporting purposes.
Performs other duties as assigned by the ASMS President/Director.
