About The Position

The State Library, Archives, and Public Records of the Nevada Department of Administration is seeking a Library Assistant in Carson City. This position offers specialized library services to Nevada residents of all ages who are visually or physically impaired, have reading disabilities, or are unable to use traditional print materials through Nevada Talking Book Services (NTBS). This work requires a high level of accuracy, customer service, and sensitivity to patron needs. This position provides direct patron service and reader advisory; processes daily circulation of audio books and magazines; manages, cleans, repairs, and inventories digital talking book machines and accessories; maintains records and statistics; and represents NTBS at outreach events and promotional activities. This position is funded through a federal grant, and continued employment is contingent upon ongoing funding from the federal government through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). Library Assistants perform clerical duties in support of the operation of libraries that house and provide access to a variety of materials in a variety of formats.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical duties, account maintenance, compile information, data entry, process and deliver mail, and file maintenance.
  • Shelve library material, including books, periodicals, and microfilm.
  • Issue library cards and input customer data.
  • Check out and document the return of materials.
  • Verify journal details, check in serials, and update the serials control database.
  • Route selected journals to designated personnel and assist in shelving.
  • Provide customer assistance by directing them to relevant resources and explaining unit policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Provides direct patron service and reader advisory.
  • Processes daily circulation of audio books and magazines.
  • Manages, cleans, repairs, and inventories digital talking book machines and accessories.
  • Maintains records and statistics.
