About The Position

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is seeking multiple on-call Librarians to join their team. This public-facing role involves serving the community by assisting with technology, providing reference and advisory services, and fostering curiosity through engaging displays and programming. As a resilient, collaborative, and flexible team member, you will support library operations and emergency coverage, advancing DPL's mission. The library system has 28 locations and serves over 4 million annual visitors, emphasizing values of welcoming, curiosity, connection, equity, and stewardship.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program or currently enrolled in an American Library Association accredited program for a Master's Degree in Library Science and must obtain a degree within 6 months of hire date.
  • One (1) year of experience solving problems and providing customer service to business or public clients.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing and maintaining a welcoming environment for young people, including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, grade schoolers, and teens.
  • Knowledge of publishing trends.
  • Knowledge and experience with developing and presenting storytimes for young children as well as adult programming
  • Skill in using and assisting customers with technology
  • Skill in providing reference, readers and media advisory service to all ages
  • Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups
  • Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
  • Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, databases, video conferencing, eMedia, social media and other software.
  • Knowledge of presenting and providing library services to customers with varying levels of experience and knowledge.
