About The Position

The Librarian will oversee and direct the daily operations of the school library, maintaining library management systems, and providing administrative support for programs like Accelerated Reader. This role involves curating and organizing library resources, creating engaging library activities for students, and fostering a love of reading. The Librarian will also assist students and teachers in resource utilization, support classroom curriculum, and promote responsible use of library materials and technology. Additionally, the position requires effective communication, record-keeping, and coordination of school book fairs, while also contributing to the overall improvement of the library program and supporting school events. A strong emphasis is placed on spiritual maturity and reflecting Christ-like attributes in all interactions.

Requirements

  • AA degree or equivalent experience (Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • Coursework in Library Science, Education, or a related field preferred
  • Demonstrate Christ-like attributes in speech and actions.
  • Demonstrate spiritual maturity, organizational ability, and leadership qualities.
  • Three or more years of experience working in a school environment preferred.
  • Experience working with library management systems preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other educational technology.
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Passion for children's literature and promoting literacy.
  • Must pass a pre-employment reference and background screen.
  • Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct the daily operations of the school library.
  • Maintain the school's library management systems, including Destiny/Follett, Renaissance/Accelerated Reader, or other approved library software.
  • Provide administrative support for the Accelerated Reader program, including student account management and user access.
  • Proofread and evaluate all new books and library materials to ensure alignment with the mission, vision, and biblical values of the school.
  • Organize, catalog, circulate, and maintain library resources and equipment.
  • Monitor library inventory, manage overdue materials, and coordinate replacement or replenishment of lost or damaged items.
  • Request library materials, instructional resources, and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain an attractive, organized, and welcoming library environment that supports learning.
  • Create and conduct engaging library activities for preschool and elementary students, including story time, themed literature units, reading enrichment, and literacy activities.
  • Encourage a lifelong love of reading by promoting quality literature and age-appropriate resources.
  • Integrate Biblical principles into library instruction and activities as appropriate.
  • Assist students and teachers in locating, evaluating, and effectively using library resources.
  • Support classroom curriculum through library resources, reading recommendations, and collaborative projects with teachers.
  • Promote responsible use of library materials and technology.
  • Utilize effective organizational and time management practices to maximize productivity.
  • Recognize the value of time-on-task and demonstrate overall good use of the workday.
  • Maintain accurate records of library circulation, inventory, and student participation.
  • Coordinate and support school book fairs with approved vendors.
  • Recommend improvements and enhancements to strengthen the school's library program and services.
  • Maintain accurate and complete library and school records.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, faculty, office staff, volunteers, and administration.
  • Clearly communicate compassion and empathy to all students in keeping with the mission of the school.
  • Reflect a Christ-like spirit in all relationships.
  • Follow the Matthew 18 principle when dealing with conflicts and personal problems that arise between individuals.
  • Arrive punctually and attend all duties, programs, and meetings scheduled by administration.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and staff training.
  • Maintain proficiency in library systems, educational technology, and literacy best practices.
  • Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
  • Provide input and constructive recommendations regarding library services and school programs.
  • Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.
  • Assist with school events and activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
  • Actively support and maintain safety standards, training, and an ongoing safety program, resulting in a safe and healthy work and school environment.
  • Be familiar with the school's fire, earthquake, lockdown, and emergency procedures and assist students whenever needed.
  • Participate in assigned roles within the school's disaster preparedness plan.
  • Comply with requirements to report reasonable suspicion of child abuse.
