About The Position

The Librarian provides professional library services that integrate reference and reader’s advisory, collection development, programming, and community outreach to support the Library’s mission of lifelong learning. The position assists patrons in locating information and resources, recommends reading and viewing materials, supports access to digital services, plans and delivers programs for diverse audiences, promotes services through multiple channels, and contributes to policy development and collection maintenance. It reports to the Library Services Manager and may be assigned to Adult Services or Youth Services, working alongside the relevant subject-area librarian. The role performs professional-level work across adult and youth services but does not have primary responsibility for system-wide program leadership or specialized subject expertise. For the Youth Services assignment, the Librarian connects children, families, caregivers, and educators with library experiences that foster literacy, curiosity, and lifelong learning. The work includes programs for children and families, storytimes, outreach, school and community partnerships, and development and maintenance of Youth Services collections. The position is part-time, scheduled for 26 hours per week (0.65 FTE): Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. The schedule may vary based on programming and operational needs. Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting with standard environmental controls, with occasional off-site outreach visits. Shifts may vary, and evening or weekend work may be necessary. The role involves frequent sitting and computer and telephone use, regular keyboarding and repetitive hand and wrist motions, frequent walking and reaching, bending and stooping, and occasional lifting or carrying of up to 40 pounds. The work is fast-paced, with deadlines, interruptions, and complex decisions, and requires independent judgment and professionalism when interacting with the public and staff.
