About The Position

The Librarian II develops and guides the District strategy for library youth services. They manage library system processes and people. They are responsible for leading by example, upholding policies consistently to maintain accountability. They deliver excellent customer service. Librarians navigate a broad range of collections and embrace many media types. Teamwork, communication and personal integrity are essential to the success of this position.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Master of Library and Information Science degree from an American Library Association accredited institution required.
  • Three years of professional public library work experience.
  • Proficient with technology and computer software navigation
  • Demonstrated understanding of ALA Core Competences

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience developing collaborations and partnerships preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delegate collection and programming assignments among youth service staff to ensure equitable workloads and successful outcomes
  • Train librarians and specialists on District Project Outcome procedures for youth programming
  • Measure the impact of the youth programming strategy
  • Manage strategic plan implementation, policy development, committee work and temporary manager-on-duty responsibilities, as assigned
  • Maintain and improve knowledge base of procedural documentation for assigned library system processes and strategies
  • Evaluate assigned collections regularly, following management principles.
  • Engage with Project Outcome assessment tools to measure programming impacts and participation. Develop, plan and conduct programming as assigned.
  • Participate in content creation for in-library promotions, media outlets and the Marketing Manager, as assigned (LibraryAware)
  • Provide advanced readers advisory and reference services to patrons
  • Actively communicate about goals and assignments with the supervisor
  • Follow financial management policy and procedure. This includes budgeting, procurement, contracts and reimbursement for assigned financials. Develop a multi-year strategy for those assignments.
  • Perform library tasks during assigned customer service desk rotations
  • Support staff with opening and closing procedures for both the library branch and outreach vehicles
  • Perform Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities as assigned
  • Support staff in outreach service procedures and providing standard library services during outreach events, including bookmobile operations
  • Develop and present training sessions to staff in area of expertise
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings
  • Support direct supervisor in special projects
