About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking applicants for the position of Librarian I in the Lincoln Library department. This role involves assisting customers with library materials, resources, and technology, providing reference and readers' advisory services, conducting research, planning and presenting programs, creating displays, and delivering excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in library science required.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and research skills are essential.
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment, assist patrons with diverse information needs, and effectively use print and electronic reference resources.
  • Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
  • Current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience planning and presenting public programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in locating and using library materials, resources, and technology.
  • Provide reference and readers' advisory services to patrons of all ages.
  • Conduct electronic and specialized research to answer complex reference questions.
  • Plan and present educational and informational programs for the public.
  • Create engaging displays and promotional materials highlighting library collections and services.
  • Deliver excellent customer service while promoting access to library resources.
