About The Position

The Boxer Library supports the mission and strategic plan of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science by providing quality information resources, exemplary service, and an interdisciplinary environment which fosters innovation and lifelong-learning. We strive to be an integral partner in student and faculty academic and research journeys by providing access to resources critical to academic progression and success such as books, databases, journal articles, physical study spaces, anatomical models, and more. In addition the library team supports the use of these resources through both synchronous and asynchronous instruction as well as one on one consultations to get the most out of the materials. Building upon the interprofessional mission of RFUMS, the library staff work as a team with each member contributing to the team’s success with their own expertise and knowledge while placing an emphasis on individual team member well being. We strive to continually evolve to provide services, resources, and spaces which enhance the impact of RFUMS.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in library science or equivalent from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Demonstrated strong interest and/or experience in developing creative and innovative learning experiences delivered in a variety of environments including face to face, hybrid, and online.
  • Demonstrated strong interest and/or experience in developing partnerships with a variety of units across the university community to promote the library's educational program and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of trends, advances, and technologies in the areas of information literacy, education, and information dissemination.
  • Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a complex, rapidly changing academic environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects with excellent organizational skills with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of groups within the university community which includes other members of the library team, university staff, faculty, and students.
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or interest in working in an academic or clinical health sciences environment.
  • Experience or interest in applying universal design principles in educational activities.
  • Experience or interest in using technologies for collaboration, teaching, and engagement including video editing and lecture capture software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the library educational program to support the university's research and education goals
  • Design, deliver, and assess course-integrated instruction, workshops, orientations, and other educational programs that promote information literacy, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning.
  • Annually assess the impact and effectiveness of the library instructional program through the creation of reports and clear documentation related to library instruction and reference.
  • Integrate current health science pedagogy, technologies, and information literacy trends into library instruction and reference, and serve as the departmental subject expert.
  • Collaborate with the Scholarly Communications and Innovation Librarian to develop policies and instructional best practices topics related to scholarly communication that include copyright, publishing, and AI.
  • Enhance library team effectiveness by collaborating with library team colleagues on the development of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Partner with library colleagues to create digital and print educational content such as online guides, videos, newsletters, posters, and promotional materials.
  • Support the university's mission, vision, and core values by providing high quality service
  • Coordinate reference and consultation services, including scheduling and assessment.
  • Deliver just-in-time user assistance through online chat, email, and personalized consultations for students and faculty.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with members across the university to support the university's mission, vision, and core values. This includes serving on departmental, divisional, and university committees and task forces when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Contribute to the body of scholarship within the university
  • Participate in research and program improvement publication and presentation projects produced by the library team to support professional practice within the health sciences librarian community.
  • Consult on evidence synthesis projects, provide guidance on information retrieval best practices, and develop related educational materials in consultation with the Scholarly Communications and Innovation Librarian.
  • Eligible to serve as the information expert on systematic or scoping review author teams.
