Requirements

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited school is required
  • Three or more years of progressive experience and increasing responsibility in a service-oriented environment, including demonstrated leadership
  • Ability to provide quality customer service, both in person, over the phone, and virtually
  • Ability to work as part of a team, meet deadlines, manage assignments and responsibilities effectively in a busy urban branch
  • Familiarity with online catalog, electronic databases, and internet searching
  • Must be able to work all hours agreed upon when hired, and flexible hours as needed, on a regular basis
  • PA State Criminal Background Check

  • Mandated Reporter Training

Nice To Haves

  • Previous public library experience desired, preferably in a diverse urban environment
  • Bilingual or multilingual a plus
  • Energetic and dynamic, highly organized, self-motivated, and possess strong leadership skills

Responsibilities

  • Assisting customers of all ages with information, digital, reader’s, and learning services, and accessing library special services, including providing in-depth information assistance when required
  • Provide customers with excellent service assistance in person, over the phone, and electronically, serving in a high profile, high energy public service role
  • Working to develop, implement, evaluate, and promote programs that reduce inequitable outcomes for adults, including programs in the library, at partner organizations, and in non-traditional settings to meet community need
  • Developing relationships with community groups, attending community events, performing community outreach and representing the Library throughout the community
  • Using data and other information to design and implement community-focused services in consultation with LSM and staff
  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of the location, including mentoring, guiding and supporting the work of staff and volunteers
  • Participating in system-wide initiatives and programs, and performing committee and service team work, and project management
  • Collaborating with colleagues and developing relationships throughout CLP and the Allegheny County Library System (ACLA)
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development both internally and with the greater professional community
  • Managing the space, including space upkeep, equipment/supplies, behavior, and creating engaging displays; assist with these tasks at the branch level as needed
  • Continuing to cultivate a timely and dynamic adult collection that is representative of the community’s needs in consultation with the Library Services Manager
