Liaison Engineer

Keel•Ladson, SC

About The Position

The Liaison Engineer serves as the technical bridge between design engineering, manufacturing operations, and external suppliers. The role ensures engineering intent is translated into manufacturable shop-floor solutions while supporting product quality, production flow, and compliance with standards. The engineer provides real-time troubleshooting, promotes design-for-manufacturability improvements, and manages non-conformances to support efficient and reliable production. Responsibilities include evaluating manufacturing deviations and defects through the Material Review Board (MRB), drafting engineering and manufacturing change requests for design-office approval, and providing immediate technical support to shop-floor personnel. The role also interprets drawings and specifications, coordinates with suppliers when materials or components do not meet requirements, and helps identify and integrate automation and robotics. For new installations, the Liaison Engineer serves as the technical bridge among external system integrators, design engineering, and production operations. The position may require travel between facilities as needed. Physical activities may include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, pushing or pulling, climbing or balancing, stooping, and kneeling regularly. The role may require lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds; mechanical means are required for weights exceeding 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment; shop-floor support experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly to technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering, production, and supplier teams.
  • Ability to travel between facilities as needed.
  • May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach, push or pull with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, or kneel regularly.
  • May lift or carry 50 pounds; mechanical means are required for weights exceeding 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MRB, ECR processes, or design-change workflows.
  • Experience with automation systems, robotics, or system integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manufacturing deviations, defects, or damaged parts through the Material Review Board and authorize use-as-is, repair, or scrap decisions.
  • Identify design errors or unbuildable manufacturing plans on the shop floor and draft engineering or manufacturing changes for design-office approval.
  • Provide immediate shop-floor troubleshooting to help prevent manufacturing line stoppages.
  • Communicate shop-floor feedback and recurring manufacturing issues to design teams to improve product revisions and tooling.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications for shop personnel and support compliance with standards.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers when raw materials or vendor-supplied components deviate from specification limits.
  • Collaborate across functions to identify, implement, and optimize automated and robotic technologies on the shop floor.
  • For new automation installations, coordinate technically among external system integrators, design engineering, and live production operations.
