Liability Specialist
About The Position
This position exercises independent discretion and judgment in claims handling involving complex liability issues, to include coverage issues and severe injury claims. The candidate will primarily handle claims for MD, DC or WV but could handle claims for other jurisdictions. The preferred candidate will work remote and can live near MD or DC; however, the hiring manager will consider candidates that live in Northern VA and/or West Virginia or within surrounding areas. The position requires the incumbent to provide support for property claims during periods of heavy volume.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Five years casualty claims adjusting experience or equivalent experience in the medical or legal field required.
- Broad knowledge and expertise in the areas of liability coverages, laws and injuries required.
- Position requires incumbents to provide support for property claims during periods of heavy volume.
- Travel for training may be required.
- Valid driver's license required.
Nice To Haves
- Associates or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conducts investigations, evaluate and make recommendations regarding coverage and liability.
- Handles claims involving complex liability, damages or coverages.
- Negotiates with all parties, or their representatives, within designated authority.
- Documents the file and submits reports.
- Identifies subrogation opportunities and initiates appropriate action.
- Completes required training.
- The position requires the incumbent to provide support for property claims during periods of heavy volume.
- Trains and mentors.
- Travel for training may be required.
