About The Position

KRAFTON Montréal is a leading game development studio composed of industry veterans, working on an AAA third-person action-adventure RPG set in an enthralling medieval fantasy world, based on an acclaimed intellectual property. As a Level Artist, the role involves creating visually compelling and engaging game environments, collaborating closely with the Art Director and level design team to bring aesthetic composition to scenes while adhering to strict technical and gameplay constraints to enhance the player's experience. This position requires a strong understanding of artistic principles, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for crafting memorable gaming worlds.

Requirements

  • MUST BE LEGALLY ABLE TO WORK IN CANADA AND BE BASED IN THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC
  • At least 5 years of experience in AAA console game productions as a Level Artist.
  • Knowledge of a game engine.
  • Knowledge of a 3D modeling software (Maya, 3Ds Max or Blender).
  • Experience in 3D modeling, texturing & lighting.
  • Deep understanding of visual composition and art fundamentals; shape language, color theory, etc.
  • Capacity to tell stories through environmental storytelling.
  • Proven ability to work with level designers and to transform greybox levels into beautiful environments, while maintaining gameplay intentions.
  • Ability to follow both a given art direction and technical guidelines.
  • Resourcefulness, adaptability, teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Unreal Engine 5 is a plus.
  • Experience with a AAA game is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the art director and the level designers to translate gameplay concepts into visually appealing environments that meet AAA expectations for mood, storytelling, lighting synergy, and visual pacing.
  • Create believable and immersive game worlds by incorporating storytelling elements, environmental storytelling, and thematic consistency.
  • Utilize project tools and art creation pipelines, to implement and optimize level assets, ensuring performance and visual fidelity.
  • Work closely with other artists, designers, and programmers to ensure seamless integration of level assets and features respecting cohesion, detail density and artistic consistency.
  • Model high-quality environment assets (props, architecture, modular kits) that respect the project’s art direction and technical constraints.
  • Partner with Tech Art and Engineering to improve workflows, tools, and pipelines for environment creation.
  • Collaborate with remote art teams to ensure that the game's visual style is consistent and meets the overall vision and goals of the project.
