About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Level 3 NICU Registered Nurse to join our night shift team! This role involves providing compassionate, cutting edge care to patients within the hospital's Level III NICU. Mountain View Hospital and its 29 affiliate clinics serve the entire Snake River Valley. The hospital offers a wide range of medical capabilities including wound care, urgent care, oncology, neurology, physical therapy, speech therapy, and a robust robotic surgery department, alongside a continuously expanding rural health practice. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school or nursing.
  • Current valid RN license with the state of Idaho.
  • Proof of completion of designated courses required at time of hire or within a designated timeframe.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Able to use a variety of medical devices including, but not limited to: I.V. pumps, radiant warmers, Neonatal monitoring devices, Newborn medication administration, and respiratory equipment.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to calculate drug dosages.
  • Possess critical thinking skills and organization.
  • Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and optimal outcome.
  • Able to work well with others.
  • Able to de-escalate volatile situations.
  • Able to offer and consider constructive instruction.
  • Possess leadership abilities.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Previous NICU experience preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for infants immediately after birth.
  • Oversee the care of infant patients in the NICU.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain NICU equipment.
  • Consult with parents/guardians on aftercare and long-term health management for infants.
  • Educate new parents on basic infant care including breastfeeding, hygiene and safety.
  • Perform tests ordered by the neonatologist or nurse practitioner and evaluate the result.
  • Administer medications correctly based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Perform vital signs, initial admission, and head-to-toe assessments on preterm, term, and post-term sick infants and post-partum adults.
  • Offer family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother baby unit.
  • Operate a variety of equipment related to infant support and care in the NICU, including chest tube setup, umbilical line setup, assisting with needle aspiration, and IV maintenance.
  • Assess neonates at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines.
  • Implement and evaluate teaching plans for parents on identified learning needs, including family as appropriate.
  • Formulate individualized plans of care, revise as indicated by patient response to treatment, and evaluate on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to patients, interpreting data to identify age-specific needs.
  • Communicate appropriately, clearly, and respectfully with charge nurses, coworkers, supervisors, and physicians.
  • Consult with other departments for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.
  • Assist providers with procedures in the NICU and Mom baby unit.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Interact professionally with patients/families and involve them in the plan of care.
  • Ensure written and electronic documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Manage and operate NICU equipment safely and correctly, reporting broken equipment immediately per protocol.
  • Perform all newborn screening, blood sampling, and discharge procedures.
  • Perform all discharge teaching and provide follow-up instructions to parents in detail according to policy and procedure.
  • Implement consultations and referrals as needed.
  • Use Healthstream and complete assigned modules.
  • Access the Policy and Procedure Manual on the hospital intranet.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Practice the prescribed vision, mission, values, and standards of Mountain View Hospital.
  • Adhere to the hospital dress code.
  • Wear hospital identification while on duty.
  • Report to work as scheduled and adhere to hospital protocol for absences and vacations.
  • Complete assigned work within the appropriate time frame.
  • Prioritize tasks for timely completion of important duties.
  • Interact with other departments and staff to promote optimum service to patients and the public.
  • Foster goodwill among staff members and the community.
  • Perform reasonable tasks as directed by the NICU Charge Nurse, supervisor, or Manager.
  • Uphold Mountain View Hospital confidentiality policy.
  • Support supervisors and adhere to hospital policies in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Treat employee wages and salaries confidentially.
  • Initiate action to prevent potential problems or nonconformities related to patient care.
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Maintain competency through education, training, and in-service activities, supporting and attending ongoing unit education.
  • Promote positive communication in the work environment.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and quality assurance.
  • Meet requirements for quarterly bonus.
