About The Position

The Maine Legislature’s Office of Policy and Legal Analysis, a nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking applicants for a Legislative Analyst position. Employees in this position work in our Augusta office, are enthusiastic about supporting the important work of the Maine Legislature, and conduct themselves in a highly confidential, professional and nonpartisan manner.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (Master’s, JD, PhD or other advanced degree)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with committees and groups

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Maine legislative process
  • Experience working in a nonpartisan capacity with a state or local legislative body or government agency
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policy and legal issues related to taxation matters

Responsibilities

  • Staffing legislative committees and study commissions
  • Analyzing legislative policy and legal issues
  • Conducting research
  • Drafting legislation
  • Preparing study reports
