About The Position

The Oregon Department of Justice’s Trial Division is seeking a Legal Support Services Supervisor 2 to join their team in either the Salem or Portland office. This role provides strategic leadership and direct supervision to legal secretaries and paralegals supporting the Corrections Litigation Unit and the Civil Litigation Section. The position also supervises the Legal Support Services Supervisor 1, indirectly overseeing professional support staff in the Criminal and Collateral Remedies Section, Special Litigation Unit, and Federal Oversight Unit. The supervisor directs daily operations of a fast-paced legal office by managing workflow, setting performance expectations, and ensuring cases progress efficiently. This leadership role drives exceptional support for attorneys and reinforces consistent, high-quality operations across all sections. The position is for individuals with developing strategic leadership experience who enjoy mentoring staff, advancing initiatives, and enhancing operations in a fast-paced setting.

Requirements

Four years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR one year of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field
Have and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Two years of experience as a high-level legal support professional.

Responsibilities

Supervise a multidisciplinary legal support team, including a subordinate supervisor, with full responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, and discipline.
Identify training needs, provide development opportunities, and contribute to Trial Division–wide training aligned with strategic goals.
Collaborate with Trial Division leadership to resolve employee issues and support division-wide staffing and planning efforts.
Oversee clerical, administrative, and paraprofessional work for assigned sections, ensuring compliance with laws, rules, and legal procedures.
Review paraprofessional work, documentation, evidence, and exhibits for accuracy and legal sufficiency; participate in case staffing with attorneys.
Manage workload distribution, coordinate workflow with courts and partner agencies, and contribute to division-wide workload planning.
Review paraprofessional billing, monitor office budget activity with leadership, compile data, prepare management reports, and recommend resource allocations.
Perform administrative tasks during peak periods or urgent needs and assist with complex or sensitive operational work to maintain continuity of services.
