About The Position

Legal Services of Greater Miami (Legal Services) is a nonprofit law firm serving low-income individuals and families in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The Family Law Unit handles matters including: Divorce, Child custody, and Domestic violence cases. The unit is dedicated to providing legal assistance and representation to low-income clients, including individuals with limited English proficiency and individuals with disabilities. The Legal Specialist provides support to Family Law attorneys in delivering legal advice, brief services, and representation to clients. The role combines client interaction, document preparation, administrative support, case management, and intake responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong follow-up and project-tracking skills.
  • Comfortable using technology and learning new software systems.
  • Proficiency in: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook
  • Ability to learn and use the Legal Server case management system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Knowledge of basic real estate principles.
  • Basic legal document drafting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site and off-site client intake.
  • Communicate with clients and third parties regarding cases and legal matters.
  • Attend client meetings and other meetings as directed by supervising attorneys.
  • Prepare documents for clients.
  • Keep client files updated with relevant communications and documentation.
  • Draft legal documents under attorney supervision.
  • Organize and maintain case-related documents.
  • Participate in weekly case reviews.
  • Notarize and/or witness documents for clients.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings.
  • Edit and prepare documents.
  • Create and maintain case files.
  • Scan, copy, and mail documents.
  • Perform general office administrative tasks to support attorneys.
