About The Position

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a dedicated Legal Services Project Manager (Pro Bono & Training) to join Legal Services State Support (State Support), a statewide legal services support program housed at MMLA that serves Minnesota's civil legal aid community. State Support plays a unique, non-direct-service role in Minnesota’s civil justice system by providing information, connections, and tools for legal aid organizations, pro bono partners, and the public. In this role, you will lead continuing legal education (CLE) and pro bono initiatives that support Minnesota’s civil legal aid community. For more information, visit www.mnlegalservices.org. The Legal Services Project Manager leads core projects that strengthen civil legal services across Minnesota. This position is responsible for managing the Minnesota Legal Advice Online (MLAO) platform, overseeing the ProJusticeMN resource site and its planned successor platform, coordinating Continuing Legal Education trainings and mini conferences, and leading programming for the biennial Statewide Legal Services Conference. The Project Manager works closely with pro bono attorneys, legal aid staff, partner organizations, and outside vendors to ensure these projects run effectively, meet community needs, and advance State Support's mission of expanding access to justice throughout Minnesota.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of legal experience in legal services, public interest law, or a related systems-level role
  • A demonstrated interest in and commitment to access to justice, including the belief that people should be able to understand and assert their legal rights, with experience making legal information accessible, clear, and usable, particularly for people navigating legal issues without representation
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects with strict deadlines
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently without direct supervision
  • Strong project management, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with learning and integrating new technologies into daily work
  • Juris Doctor degree

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the functioning of the Minnesota Legal Advice Online (MLAO) platform with support from an outside vendor.
  • Reviews and logs all questions posted to the MLAO site.
  • Trains, supports, and recruits pro bono lawyers for the MLAO platform.
  • Closes unanswered questions on MLAO and provides referrals when appropriate.
  • Compiles data for reporting on MLAO site usage.
  • Oversees the ProJusticeMN site, updating information and collaborating with partners.
  • Works closely on a project to replace ProJusticeMN with a new platform funded by a BOCLA project grant.
  • Serves as the lead training planner for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) trainings and mini conferences, identifying training topics and presenters and coordinating trainings.
  • Serves as the lead for planning State Conference programming, including plenary and breakout sessions.
  • Assists with additional duties as needed.
