About The Position

The Commonwealth's Attorney Department is looking for an administrative professional to join their team as a Legal Secretary. This role provides administrative support to attorneys by ensuring cases are prepared for court. The Legal Secretary will update the case management system to align with the court's schedule and produce criminal histories. This position does not offer telework or remote work opportunities and is considered essential personnel during City emergency situations, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in direct customer service or receptionist work.
  • One (1) year of clerical experience preferably in a local government environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of the personal computer and software programs to include word processing, database management and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with diverse populations and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in local government, court services, law firms, prosecutors offices or similar fields.
  • Some knowledge of community organizations, procedures and policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Update the case management system to ensure cases for prosecution are scheduled identically to the court’s schedule.
