About The Position

The Legal Secretary under general supervision provides clerical support to assigned attorneys. This role involves assisting attorneys in collecting information, providing broad administrative and office support, screening visitors and telephone calls, responding to inquiries, conducting preliminary interviews of prospective clients, typing and proofreading various documents, composing correspondence, developing and maintaining filing systems, maintaining databases, collecting and compiling data for reports, preparing legal documents, securing signatures, and delivering documents. The Legal Secretary also pulls dockets, scans new cases, prints judgments, files orders, redacts information, drafts and edits revocations, provides case preparation support, compiles petitions and reports, conducts research, calendars hearings and meetings, retrieves files, responds to questions regarding case disposition, reviews and processes applications, redacts court orders, copies and files records, notifies attorneys of filings, assists the public with inquiries, handles difficult customers, archives files, responds to open records requests, and may substitute for coworkers during temporary absences. Additionally, the role requires attending meetings, training, and information sessions, staying abreast of new trends, demonstrating excellent customer service, and fostering a high-quality work culture through training and mentoring. As a Disaster Service Worker, employees may be required to train on emergency response and perform emergency services during a proclaimed emergency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of law office/secretarial experience
  • Six (6) months working customer service experience
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern office administration
  • Knowledge of the court system
  • Knowledge of legal terminology
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, rules and codes
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer service
  • Knowledge of English usage/bi-lingual preferred, grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Knowledge of techniques for effective interpersonal communications
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment to include Windows and Microsoft based products
  • Ability to maintain confidential records and reports

Responsibilities
