About The Position

As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you’ll work on real projects, be part of our collaborative culture, and get the support you need to grow - across two full semesters. Employees within these groups use their area of expertise to support all businesses across the company, keeping the heart of each brand at the forefront. Areas of placement may include: Corporate Legal – Compliance (JD-level): The Global Compliance team at NBCUniversal works with all businesses to provide guidance and to help identify and mitigate risk. The team is responsible for implementing and maintaining policies, procedures, and internal controls, enforcing compliance with Integrity standards, and promoting an ethical culture across the Company. The successful JD-level intern will support the broader Global Compliance team with a special focus on the Consumer Protection Compliance practice, which is responsible for helping all businesses comply with domestic and international consumer protection laws, regulations, and industry standards. Corporate Legal – Government Affairs (JD-level): NBCUniversal’s Government Affairs team focuses on regulatory, legislative, and public policy matters related to broadcasting/media/film/streaming issues, including broadcast licensing and media regulations, programming and advertising standards, accessibility, privacy, intellectual property, and content piracy.

Requirements

Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027)
December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program
Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits)
Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States
Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027
Must be willing to work in Washington, DC
Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship
Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing
Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire

Nice To Haves

Current class standing of 2L or above preferred
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
Demonstrated interest in consumer protection and other areas of compliance, regulatory matters, or in-house legal work (for Corporate Legal – Compliance)
Coursework or experience in administrative and copyright law (for Corporate Legal – Government Affairs)
Interest in the broadcast, digital media, and telecommunications industries (for Corporate Legal – Government Affairs)

Responsibilities

Support the broader Global Compliance team with a special focus on the Consumer Protection Compliance practice
Prepare briefing memos, talking points, comment summaries, and other written materials
Attend virtual and in-person hearings, conferences, and events
Partner with team members to determine the impact of federal actions on the organization
Develop presentations and other written materials on findings
Act as an internal consultant to the government affairs team
