As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you will work on real projects, be part of a collaborative culture, and receive support for growth across two full semesters. Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
  • Must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • For Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Ability to understand music-related concepts and contractual language is a plus; Strong interest in music and/or transactional work.
  • For Film Rights & Clearances: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing.
  • For USG Business Affairs: Must be studying in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Pre-Law, English).
  • For USG Legal Affairs: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Current class standing of 2L or above preferred; Coursework or experience in intellectual property, right of publicity, defamation, privacy, labor/employment, entertainment, and/or transactional law and AI preferred; Familiarity with Microsoft Power Automate, JSON programming, or other workflow automation tools, including how they may be deployed in connection with developing legal contract forms.

Responsibilities

  • Researching music rights, analysing and summarizing music deal terms, drafting music talent agreements, reviewing production content for music information, and assisting with tracking rights, analysis, and grid maintenance (Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs).
  • Working with the Legal, Bonus Legal, and Music Legal teams to research/analyze and provide guidance on rights, contractual requirements, studio policy, guild issues, and product licensing to a variety of teams within Global Distribution and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (Film Rights & Clearances).
  • Assisting with responsibilities including reviewing deal memos, agreements, and other correspondence; summarizing relevant deal points and updating Salesforce with fee information; and reviewing documents that have come into the department (USG Business Affairs).
  • Assisting show lawyers with vetting television show scripts for legal risks, making clearance determinations for production-related materials, and other issue-spotting and analysis (USG Legal Affairs).
  • Conducting legal research on issues that may arise during the production of both unscripted and scripted television shows (USG Legal Affairs).
  • Assisting the team by leveraging existing legal technology tools, like Microsoft Power Automate, to support the group’s efforts to streamline process, generate forms, and create efficiencies (USG Legal Affairs).
