About The Position

The Academic Year Internship Program offers interns the opportunity to work on real projects, contribute to meaningful work, and build valuable skills over two full semesters. NBCU Corporate groups provide expertise to support all businesses across the company. Universal Television Entertainment is responsible for world-class television entertainment, programming and marketing content across brands like Bravo, NBC, and Peacock, and producing over 3,000 hours of television annually through Universal Studio Group. Universal Film handles the production, acquisition, marketing, and global distribution of filmed entertainment across various media formats, operating in 20 countries and committed to supporting diverse stories and voices.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
  • NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.
  • For Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs (JD-level): Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong interest in music and/or transactional work.
  • Strong interest in the media industry.
  • Self-starter, professional, and ability to adapt.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • For Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs (JD-level): Ability to understand music related concepts and contractual language is a plus.
  • For Music Business & Legal Affairs (undergrad-level): Knowledge of music-related concepts such as PROs, Cue Sheets, and Clearance terminology preferred.
  • For USG TV Music: Ability to understand music-related concepts and industry terms; Previous experience with music industry software (SourceAudio and DISCO); Experience with music publishing research using industry websites such as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR, and the MLC; Familiarity with where to find licensing information on various platforms such as Spotify, Discogs, AllMusic, and Tunefind.

Responsibilities

  • For Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs (JD-level): researching music rights, analysing and summarizing music deal terms, drafting music talent agreements, reviewing production content for music information, and assisting with tracking rights, analysis, and grid maintenance.
  • For Film Music Creative: support the team that oversees the selection and commissioning of film composers; the monetization, management, and publishing of the music created by those composers for our films; and the selection, clearance, and licensing of third-party/commercial music for Universal-produced films.
  • For Film Music Publishing: help support the team responsible for monetizing and managing the studio’s film assets as it relates to film music, film score, theme songs, etc. by way of licensing to third parties.
  • For Music Business & Legal Affairs (undergrad-level): support the overall team; gain valuable training and a balanced experience by participating in day-to-day operations; researching copyright information, creating and updating music cue sheets, databases, tracking grids, and more.
  • For USG Television Music Creative: support the staff while obtaining a well-rounded view of how the music and television industries function together; engage in music clearance, listen to new music received, search our internal music library, and evaluate tracks for potential use; assist with day-to-day activities and various research projects relating to both the creative and business affairs sides of the department; provide experiential learning on the process of clearing and licensing music for programming produced by Universal Studio Group and for promos across NBCUniversal marketing.
